The Shaw Group has been awarded a contract by PSEG Fossil to install mercury control and flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) systems at PSEG's Mercer Generating Station near Trenton, New Jersey. The FGDs will be installed on Units 1 and 2 at Mercer.

Mercer Station's new emissions controls are expected to reduce mercury emissions by 90 percent and sulphur dioxide emissions by 94 percent. Work under the contract, valued at approximately $440m, is scheduled for completion in early 2010.

J.M. Bernhard, Jr, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Shaw, said, ‘We are pleased to have been selected by PSEG for this important project, which is in addition to a mercury control system project currently underway at Unit 3 of PSEG's Bridgeport Harbor Generating Station.’

Shaw is also currently performing maintenance and modifications services at nuclear-fuelled power generating units at PSEG's Salem and Hope Creek Generating Stations.
